Photo Collection: Florida Aquarium

Hello everyone, it's Gabe here, and today I have a photo collection from the Florida Aquarium.

Background

The Florida Aquarium is a large aquarium facility that is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), which means that the have the highest care standards for their animals. The Florida Aquarium is located in the Channelside district of Tampa, so it has a very central downtown location, right on Tampa Bay. I took all of these photos on a trip in 2012, so it has been a little while, but nonetheless the aquarium is a great experience, hopefully this collection will give you a taste!

Photos

There is a neat Florida mangrove style exhibit, here I saw stingrays, horseshoe crabs, and various fish.

There was also a sea turtle exhibit, which featured several sea turtles, as well as a model of the nests they dig, which is shown on the bottom left picture. The Florida aquarium operates a Sea turtle rescue program, which includes a team that studies sea turtles in the region, as well as assisting injured sea turtles.

The aquarium also has a wide variety of fish tanks, complete with various species of fish. Shown on the top is a tank that contained clownfish and sea anemone. The two pictures on the bottom were from tanks that had lego structures built inside of the tanks.

Here is a picture from an educational sign at the aquarium that goes into detail about the transportation of fish around the world, and how many times there are large shipments of fish shipped via commercial air transports. Including over 15,000 boxes departing Tampa International Airport annually, easily among one of the most valuable airfreight at the airport.

Thanks for reading along, I hope this photo collection inspires someone to add the Florida Aquarium to their list! As always, leave a comment below regarding the Florida Aquarium!
