Sea Day Favorites
Hi everyone, it’s Victoria, and today’s blog post is about one of my favorite parts about cruising: sea days! Sea days are one of my absolute favorite things about cruising because of the endless opportunities you have aboard the ship and because of the serene and breathtaking views of the ocean that surround you for miles; some people get nervous over that view, but I love it.
But besides just daydreaming about my perfect day at sea, I want to list out and talk about a few of my favorite things about sea days, and hopefully give you an idea of what to expect during a day at sea.
Have time to explore the ship
One of the best things about a day at sea is that it’s just you, the ship, and the sea, so you have no plans or obligations to be anywhere else, which is the perfect opportunity to explore the ship. This is especially good on bigger ships, where you might feel overwhelmed, and since there is typically a sea day the day after you leave the home port, it’ll give you a chance to explore your ship early on.
More ship wide activities
Another good thing about sea days is that there more things to do on the ship. While you are docked in a port, the casino and shops are closed, so sea days give you the opportunity to explore the various shops found on board. Besides the shops and casino being open, the cruise director hosts more activities and there are different shows and demonstrations. Two of my favorite sea day activities on Carnival are the sushi making demonstration and the Groove for St. Jude fundraiser.

Elegant night typically falls on a sea day
I love dressing up in something other than my typical jean and sweaters, so elegant night on a cruise is something I always look forward to. On longer cruises, it happens twice a week, and on shorter cruises it happens only once, but I recommend participating in elegant night no matter the occasion and length of your cruise; it is a fun and fancy chance for you and the people you’re traveling with to take professional portraits and other pictures to remember your cruise by!
More time to spend with people
Meeting people and making new friends is my favorite part about traveling and cruising in specific, and sea days are the perfect opportunity for that! For cruisers still attending the youth programs, those are open earlier on sea days versus port days, which gives younger cruisers (and their parents) a peace of mind on what to do. And for older cruisers, they have the opportunity to meet and talk to people all over the ship; from the nightclub to the comedy club to just lounging by the pool!
I hope this quick overview of my personal sea day favorites gives you an idea on what to do and what to expect on sea days! And as always, thanks for reading and comment below some of your sea day favorites!
